If you use the tables in the site creatively, you can design a site with smarter and clean looks. The websites with clumsy looks are not preferred by most of the visitors. As the tables are in HTML code it loads faster.
There are designers who keep animated gif in the site. But it is advisable to keep only required animated gif. The animated gif take a longer time to load. That is why it becomes really irritating. So use them only when you need them. Icons should be colorful and simple. These kinds of icons grab visitors attention and add color to the look of the website.
