Traditional Indian wedding dazzles onlookers with its grandeur, color and melodrama. A groom with sheathed sword hanging from the waist, face covered with floral shroud seated on horseback, heading to get his lady love (or luck since dowry is prevalent atrociously in Indian society either in the covert or in the overt manner).

The bride waits patiently well adorned in heavy jewelry with her grave faced father and uncles pacing up and down the joint family yard, stealing anxious glances at the wrist watch. Lagna or stipulated time for marriage which is best suited for the auspicious happening due to superb arrangement of the heavenly bodies creating great astrological significance and happy promises for future needs to be strictly adhered to.

Finally when the knight arrives after a lot of suspense and tensed apprehension, the anxious crowd breaks out into loud cheers of appreciation.

All this is before the main ceremony but guess what the hot ball game is after wedding? Spot on…the much awaited Suhaagraat when drama revolves round a glass of milk. The bride gets a lot of wise suggestions from her much experienced peers while the groom waits with palpitating heart for the countdown to begin.

I could not really yet make out why the milk has to be handed over to the groom before the final play, milk is highly nutritious diet indeed however if it at all plays a role in directly impacting the male libido is a matter best left for speculation.
No concrete news as of now, but milk is supplied. God known since how many generations milk have been so religiously supplied & digested.

In spite of much ado Indian traditional wedding is a feast for the eyes, especially for the Occidental palate. The diverse rituals along with the rassams and dance and music give a kaleidoscopic view of our wonderful culture in a jiffy.
