About Low Interest Credit Cards

Many companies offer low interest credit cards but you should be aware of some other issues aside from interest rates. You should take a closer look at the fine print and contracts before signing up for low interest rate credit cards. Study the conditions that take effect after the low interest promo period ends and how late payments will affect your interest rates.

It would be a good idea to look at several cards and companies that offer low interest. Find out which company can offer the best deal and has lenient penalties. Some penalties can make your low interest rates seem insignificant after you pay fines for late payments. Find out if the credit company is offering low interest as a promo for a limited period or if they are permanent low interest credit cards.

Understand financial and credit terminology and then read the contract and fine print carefully. Find out if the low interest rate credit cards apply the same rate to all transactions such as purchases, balance transfers and cash advances. Find a card that applies low interest rates to all categories and applications.

Another thing to look into is if the card applies a fixed rate or a variable rate. A fixed rate means you will get the same interest rate which will never change as long as your card is active. A variable rate changes depending on inflation and other factors. A low variable interest rate may go up unexpectedly at any time.  It won’t necessarily remain low forever.

An important factor to consider when applying for low interest credit cards is the annual fee that comes with the card. Some credit cards charge annual fees to keep the card active for the following year. Other cards don’t have annual fees. If the low interest rate credit cards you are applying for have annual fees, find out if the trade off is worth it.

Other things you should compare are the fees for cash advance and balance transfers. These transactions usually have fees attached to them. Compare the credit limits on each card and determine if you need a card with a large limit or not. Choose the low interest credit cards that best suits your needs.
